Activities on the Water and Around Town...
La Ventana has a wide variety of fun activities, either on the water, or around the area. Bring your water and land toys and get ready for some fun!
Kiteboarding and Windsurfing: Kurt~n~Marina has a kiteboarding and windsurfing friendly beach and a sandy launch area. Bring all your gear as you never know when El Norte will let it rip and you will need that small sail or kite!
Kayaking: Bring your kayaks and enjoy early morning calm water for some easy kayaking in the bay. Look down and see a variety of fish, coral, and sea urchins. Watch the pelicans dive for food!
Board Paddling: A new addition of early morning activity is board paddling. Bring your large board and with a purchase of a special board paddling paddle, you can coast along and enjoy the sea life, the sunrise, and the view of the bay.
Boogie Boarding: The mornings are ideal for great waves breaking onshore. If you or your kids enjoy boogie boarding, bring 'em, as incoming and outgoing tides create a fun activity before the wind comes up. If you enjoy bigger waves, just wait for the wind to come up!
Fishing: Ah, the excitement of catching your own dinner! Many people fish from shore in the early morning, or troll for fish from their kayak. There are hundreds of different kinds of fish in the bay!
Snorkeling: The bay is teeming with fish, starfish, jellyfish, sea urchins, turtles, stingrays, and oh so much variety!
Beachcombing: Walk along the shores of the bay and you will find a wide variety of shells. If you are willing to walk, bike, or drive to the "Boofadoar" (blow holes), you will find lots of pretty shells to take home.
Mountain Biking: There are a lot of trails to ride in the La Ventana area. One such trail is the Quail Trail, riding through the cactus on a twisty, tight single track. Take along a friend who has ridden in the area or bring your GPS as there are lots of intersecting trails and roads that peter out. You can ask around in the main campground just north of Kurt~n~Marina's - they usually have scheduled rides (easy, intermediate, and advanced) three days a week. Note: Put "slime" tubes in your tires to help reduce the chance of flat tires!
Hiking: If you have an arroyo worthy vehicle, you can drive up various arroyo's, park, and then hike up into the canyons to enjoy the hidden waterfalls. Watch for cows, pigs, and a wide variety of birds. You may even run across a tarantula! Baja Sur is full of surprises!
